Samir Ranpara

Mindfulness and Meditation Expert

AH!2016 Talk:

Samir Ranpara is the founder of Portland Mindfulness Programs where he teaches mindfulness and meditation classes. He is a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) instructor.

Ranpara grew up in India and was introduced to meditation at 12 years of age. He practiced it for a while, but subsequently stopped it, skeptical of its value.

Fast forward to many years later. Ranpara moved to the United States and received a Masters degree in Computer Engineering from Virginia Tech and subsequently started having problems in his personal life from stress. The difficulties made him reconsider the practices of his youth and began exploring meditation again. He also studied mindfulness. He immersed himself in brain science supporting the benefits of the two practices. Inspired by the new learning, Ranpara began practicing meditation again on a regular basis. But this time he was determined to learn it the correct way and trained at the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He received certification from the “MBSR in Mind-Body Medicine Professional Training taught by Jon Kabat-Zinn, MIT graduate and Professor of Medicine Emeritus and creator of the Stress Reduction Clinic and the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Ranpara also took mindfulness classes at UCLA.

Ranpara also enrolled in the meditation training at a Zen center in Sunnyvale, California to gain additional understanding of the practice. Over the span of two years, he spent a significant amount of time at the center learning meditation and the Buddhist philosophy. Learning from diverse perspectives significantly enriched his insights into the practice of mindfulness.

Meditation has transformed his life. His anxiety and panic attacks disappeared. Stress in his life was massively reduced. Ranpara is passionate about teaching mindfulness and meditation and relieving others of suffering. He quit a lucrative high tech job and started teaching meditation and mindfulness full-time. He avidly continues his education in the science of the practices. Ranpara followed his passion and now helps hundreds of people live a more fulfilled life.
